ELTC March newsletter

Dear ELTC members,

Firstly, it is worth outlining our position on Coronavirus:
The Club is following guidelines from the LTA regarding Coronavirus (COVID-19) which advises there is presently no reason people should stop doing their daily sport and physical activities as they normally would (15/03/2020).
As Club members we must of course play our responsible part in preventing the spread of Covid-19 and avoid catching it by following Public Health England and NHS guidance.
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/
https://publichealthmatters.blog.gov.uk/2020/01/23/wuhan-novel-coronavirus-what-you-need-to-know/
Any person self-isolating should clearly therefore not take part in tennis activity and the Club will welcome you on your return!
The situation is moving fast, so we will update all members via email with any latest significant updates...

On a brighter note, we are pleased to release a promotional video for the Club produced by Terry Leahy and Mai Yoshida. They have worked hard over a long period of time, and the video portrays the club at its best! Terry and Mai, along with the club, would like to thank all the people involved in the filming - either playing in the background or drinking! Thanks to voiceovers Anneka, John S, Martin (Twinkle Toes), Delainey, Henrietta, Eleanor and Arii. Thanks to others who helped in various ways include Anoushka, David (drone), Gham, Ravi, Nev, Masa, Kaoru and John K. Also to George and the juniors.

The Sunday evening team practice sessions have come to a close this winter. Thanks to all the first team players who ran the sessions, showing the team spirit at the Club! We averaged 8 players per session over 21 weeks so it was a great effort by all involved.
Summer team practice/trials are starting today and every Sunday evening from 6pm for the next five weeks:
15th March - men's teams 5-6
22nd March - men's teams 3-4
29th March - ladies 5th team
5th April - ladies teams 3-4
19th April - men's & ladies 1st & 2nd teams

For any members hoping to get Wimbledon tickets in the ballot, please ensure your county is set to "Middlesex" and club as "ELTC" on your LTA login area.
The ballot will be displayed at the end of this month/beginning of April.
(Those winning tickets who have not opted in will not be given tickets).

Coach Gham is recovering from his broken finger and Cardio Tennis sessions have resumed on Monday & Wednesday at 7pm and Saturday at 10:30am. Come along to pay-and-play for £7/session.

Some ELTC player/junior news on the international scene:
- George Loffhagen, on the come back, moves up 83 places on the men's ATP ranking list with some impressive results in Tunisia.
- Mattias Southcombe wins another junior ITF tournament in Estonia and moves up to 486 in the world having played only 5 tournaments on the tour. Mattias won the final and then quickly got on a flight to meet up with the Middlesex 18&U County Cup team led by ELTC Junior Coaching Programme coach Shola Roper.
- Mike Stojsavlijevic (6 in the country for 12&U) who trains in the ELTC Junior Coaching Programme took a trip to Spain with the LTA in preparation for some Tennis Europe events in April.

HC Tennis, who also run junior coaching at the club on the outside courts, will be holding a FREE open day at ELTC on Sunday March 22nd from 15:00 until 16:30. This is a great way to introduce the sport of tennis to any children who have not played before. They can then sign up for lessons if they enjoy themselves.
If any of your children or people you know have children who would like to attend, please sign up using the link below as places are limited:
https://hctennis.co.uk/openday2020

HC Tennis will also be delivering a new adult beginner course from the end of April. This is great news for new members who are learning the game, or existing members at beginner level who want to develop their game further.
The session will be on Sundays from 13:00 - 14:00 on courts T1&2.
With the first session starting on Sunday 26th April.
The first class will be free to try, before deciding whether to sign up for the term for a cost of £14/hour.
Please email info@hctennis.co.uk for any questions or to sign up to your free trail.

Keep an eye out for membership renewal at the end of March...

And we will keep you informed of any Coronavirus updates...

Best,
James
ELTC Club Manager
