Winter Singles League

Dear Winter Singles League competitors,

Another WSL session now completed and plenty to talk about.

Next Session is now posted on-line and cards will be up in the Clubhouse by tomorrow afternoon, Saturday 9th February. Final session finishes on Wednesday 3rd April at 6pm

Once again considering the awful weather over the past couple of weeks the number of games played in this last session was excellent. Particular praise should go to the following leagues who managed to play the maximum games available; League 1, League 6 and the Improver league. Good to see that level of enthusiasm from some of the lower leagues.

Men’s

Howard Scott a newcomer to the league is in the number one spot for the men, winning all his 5 games and presenting a real challenge to our established top players. Alex Brown our men’s team captain put in another strong performance and lies in second place. Jack Brooker and Kirit Bharj gained promotion into the Premier League for the last session, giving them a shot at the 2019 Title. Jack Brooker, Karim Breeveld and Tom Ollendorff were the only other men to win all their matches. The following men had a good session dropping only one of their available matches; Paul Wakefield, Davide Gorini, Toshi Higuchi, Richard Lenzi, Anthony Lumley, Fahad Abdi and Simon Hery.

Women’s

Milli Shah maintains her hold on the highest placed woman. Bravely battling in the top league and only just coming up 2 games short of holding her position. Milli has recently been nominated to represent England in her age group, for the 4 Nations Tennis Championships which is a fantastic achievement. Sophie Coombes-Roberts has been out for a short while, but due to some impressive recent results has been seeded in league 2 for this coming session and is the woman’s second placed player. Delainey Ackerman, Lara Ross and Lesley McAvoy are in 3rd, 4th and 5th place respectively and are all in League 4B this session, so all have an equal opportunity to gain third place overall.

Most Improved Player

The highly contested most improved player race is hotting up. Lara Ross has moved up 4 places, while Delainey Ackerman and Milli Shah are the next position having dropped 1 place from their original seeding’s. For the men Karim Breeveld is in a strong position having gained 12 places with Ben Lam close behind on 10 places. Others are Samuel Oliver +7, Rakesh Rangesh /Jason Palmer / Brendan Bruen +6, Jonny Payne / Laurent Vançon / Cameron Hauxwell / Fahad Abdi +5

O.K. that’s the end of the Round of Session 2

Don’t forget, next and final Session ends on Wednesday 3rd April at 6pm

Remember try and be pro-active in arranging your games and it can pay to play your matches early in the session.

Current set of rules attached.

Good Luck with your matches.
