Winter Singles League - Update

Hello WSL competitors,

The new session has now been posted on the club’s web site and on the notice board in the clubhouse. Due to the Christmas period this session is a little longer to allow games to be played, deadline is 6pm Thursday 23rd January 2020.

Benjamin Moyon has nabbed top spot during the first session, followed by Vincent Gaugry and Howard Scott. Mili Shah remains the highest ranked woman in League 1, followed by Sangeeta Arora, Tonia Gann and Henrietta Marsh-Smith all in League 4. It is too early to define the ‘most improved’ players at this stage, but if you gained promotion then you are moving in the right direction. Remember if you are not in the running for one of these categories, there is also a prize for the most games played.
The league has been extended for the next session with a new Division 1B to help accommodate players entering the league and also to represent the high number of players we have competing at this level. Remember A, B, and C, leagues have equal status - it is the number of the league that differentiates it from others, also the position in which you are within each league.

If you are new to the league please see attached WSL Rules.

Including the influx of new players joining in this session the league has surpassed 100 participants which is the highest number since it was conceived over 20 years ago. 175 matches were played in this session, hopefully helping towards a better standard of tennis and improving fitness for all. This session was particularly tough with what seemed like endless rain and I’m sure the next will throw up some more challenges, so thank you all for your continued commitment, enthusiasm and resilience!

If you have any queries, please e-mail me at the above address.
Wishing you all best of luck and hoping you can enjoy some of your tennis over the festive period.

Regards,

Mike Knibbs
